Taye Tolera Balcha is a Senior Program Director at Big Win Philanthropy US. He is a medical doctor and a former Member of Parliament with 20 years’ experience implementing public health programs. Prior to joining Big Win, Taye worked as the Health Program Team Leader at McKinsey & Company in Ethiopia and served as the Director General of the Armauer Hansen Research Institute, appointed by former Prime Minister of Ethiopia Hailemariam Desalegn. He also served as Chief of Staff to the State Minister at the Federal Ministry of Health of Ethiopia and has worked at various levels of senior leadership in the government of the Oromia region of Ethiopia, including as Deputy Head of the Regional Health Bureau. He holds an MD from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia and received a Master’s in Public Health and a PhD in Epidemiology from Lund University, Sweden. He has published extensive research on epidemiology.
